Migrant children are not a homogeneous group and their reasons for movement and vulnerabilities vary. For some children, migration may open horizons and is associated with expanding social and economic spheres, and majority of children convicted to serious risks. It badly affects and influences the lives of migrant children, related to education, health and well-being.

Due to various challenges like language, educational opportunities, discriminations etc… facing the destination area, the families usually stop the children from school and put send them to work. Many times children are even used as bonded labourers and Child labourers. READ strives to protect the children from exploitation and child labour and ensure their rights to education and freedom to pursue a vocation of their choice. These are implemented through establishing Education Centres in the 2 settlements of migrant workers in Erode District.   

It is a place for them to learn, play and have fun. The teachers of out centres are specially trained and are highly sensitive to the rights of the children. Innovative teaching materials are used in order to promote interactive learning which also empowers them.

The aims of Educational Centre for Migrant Children;

  • To provide value based education that helps to assess their own situation and develop their personality.
  • To discover school dropout children and child labourers and send they back to school.
